Hi there, fellow bookworms!!book-worm-clipart-8

October is exciting for many reasons. It’s the month where we get to tell spooky stories around a campfire (or in my case, under my bedsheets with a flashlight illuminating my face for creepy effect), decorate our front doors with hand-made spiderwebs and paper mache bats, carve jack-o-lanterns, eat tons of candy and dress up as whatever we want without being judged! I mean, c’mon, it’s almost better than Christmas. But even more exciting to every fellow bookworm out there, it’s that a new month always means new books out in the world. I would like to share some of the books I am most excited about this upcoming month and can’t wait to read! Anyone who knows me knows that I love Halloween and any reason to watch or read anything scary so, keeping true to the Halloween theme, I decided to include some books that I feel are very faithful to the horror theme, which is probably why they’re being released in October (duh?). So without further ado, here it goes:

This Darkness Mine by Mindy McGinnis

darkness mine

Out October 10th, this psychological thriller by Mindy McGinnis promises to be full of gripping and exciting suspense.  Sarah Stone has a perfectly organized life which she has total control over until Isaac Harver is introduced into her world. Soon, Sarah must figure out why she is inexplicably drawn towards Isaac and everything seems to point towards one thing: the twin sister she absorbed in the womb. I’m particularly excited about this book because the blurb made me think of the horror movie The Unborn, which portrays a girl in a partially similar situation. If you haven’t watched it, check it out! It is totally worth watching if you’re into that genre.

The Devils You Know by M. C. Atwood

The Devils You Know follow a group of high school students as they navigate through the creepy legends and rumors surrounding an infamous house in Wisconsin, where they happen to go on their school field trip. I’m excited because it sounds like the typical situation in a ’90s slasher/horror film where a group of teenagers band together to defeat a great evil (and I’m a sucker for that). This novel is out October 3rd.

The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand

Yes yes yes! A modern re-telling of A Christmas Carol through the eyes of the newly-employed Ghost of Christmas Past, Holly, after she dies for ignoring the warnings and advises of her three Christmas ghosts. Extremely excited for this one, can’t wait for October 24th.

Stranger Fire (Anchor & Sophia #1) by Tommy Wallach

stranger fire

One true reason to be excited for this book’s release on October 3rd — read the blurb, it says :

“For teens who grew up reading and adoring The Giver and The City of Ember.”

Do you need any more incentive? Because I certainly do not.

~ Devils & Thieves by Jennifer Rush

First book in the Devils & Thieves series follows Jemmie Carmichael and her journey to becoming a key person in saving the magical world she was born into.  Released October 3rd.

Beasts Made of Night by Tochi Onyebuchi

Beasts Made of Night promises a story full of mages that can eat sins by extracting them from a sinner in the form of sin-beasts (I’m confused but intrigued), and Taj, the most talented of the sin-eaters must overcome a series of obstacles thrown his way to save all of his kind and the princess he loves. This promising Nigerian-influenced fantasy novel is out October 31st.

That Inevitable Victorian Thing by E. K. Johnston

Set in the future, That Inevitable Victorian Thing explores an alternate reality where the British Empire is preserved and flourishing. In this world, princess and heir to the throne Victoria-Margaret must marry for duty and political advantages. Before doing so, however, she spends one last summer incognito as a single lady where she meets August Callaghan, a man who will tempt her to change the ways of her world just to be with him, just like her ancestor Queen Victoria I centuries before. Out October 3rd.

Turtles All The Way Down by John Green

Reasons to get my hands on this book as soon as it is out on October 10th:

  1. It’s a John Green book.
  2. It’s a John Green book written through a girl’s point of view.
  3. See #1

All The Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater

all the crooked siants

All The Crooked Saints tells the story of three cousins in Bicho Raro, Colorado, who come from a family able to perform miracles. It promises a story full of love, fear, darkness and redemption in true Stiefvater fashion. Absolutely can’t wait to review this! Out October 10th.

The Empress (The Diabolic #2) by S. J. Kincaid

After a breathtaking and deeply entertaining first novel of The Diabolic series by the phenomenal S. J. Kincaid, Tyrus and Nemesis must find a way to keep their reign moving forward, one where Nemesis and her kind can be respected and accepted. Firth, though, Nemesis must protect Tyrus from the Grandiloquy and prove to everyone, and themselves, that they are worthy of the throne. Root for this amazing and absolutely inspiring heroine on her journey starting October 31st.
